User Accounts

While anyone can browse and search the Genesys portal as an anonymous visitor, creating a user account unlocks a set of powerful features designed to make your work with plant genetic resources more efficient.

Why create an account?​

A registered account allows you to move beyond simple browsing and start managing your research data within the portal. Here are the main benefits:

Streamlined material requests​

Instead of manually noting down accession numbers, you can use the "My List" feature to organize the material you want to request and send those requests to genebanks with just a few clicks.

Advanced data tools​

Registered users have access to tools that require more processing power, including:

  • Excel downloads: Export your search results and lists directly to Excel for further analysis.
  • Similarity Search: Find accessions that are genetically or descriptively similar to a specific record, which is incredibly helpful if your first choice is unavailable.
  • Subset builder: Define custom subsets of accessions based on climate, soil and other environmental variables to match your target growing conditions.
  • Change history: Track how passport data for an accession has evolved over time.

API access​

For those who prefer to work programmatically, a user account is required to access the Genesys API. This allows you to integrate Genesys data directly into your own tools, such as R scripts or other bioinformatics pipelines.

Getting started​

Creating an account is completely free and takes only a few minutes. You can sign up using your institutional email address or via Google sign-in. We recommend using an institutional email to ensure your account remains connected to your professional identity over time.
